BIRTH OF ‘TRIBE’ – Year 2002

Joe Tribe, the founder of ‘TRIBE’ was a student of the Malaysian Institute of Arts (MIA). Thus, with his bold and unique creativity mind he realises his dream with his college final year project whereby he has established the TRIBE label by designing and producing his very own hand-printed T-Shirts for sale in he college. The responds was tremendous as his thrilling designs are uniquely one in a million and hence, gave him a solid market impact foundation that eventually impressed one of his lecturer, Mr. Vinod who then encouraged and supported him to launch TRIBE clothing line. With great enthusiasm and courageous positive attitude, Joe Tribe went all out to break into the streetwear industry of Malaysia. Initially, it was an intensive toil of him to run a one man show; including designing, producing and hand-delivering his products by taking bus rides to places like Sungai Wang complex to convince and sell his products.

TRIBE CLOTHING – Year 2003 - 2009

The evolution year of TRIBE clothing as Joe met up with his partners Ice, a renowned musician and Yeoman, a budding interior designer to fully established TRIBE clothing by opening their own outlet bearing the name ‘KLAN’ in his hometown, Malacca. By then, TRIBE has been one of the major streetwear industry players of Malaysia with their products going into the market around Malaysia. In due course, KLAN began diversified their product lines ranging from clothing to footwear and accessories.

What make TRIBE unique and special in the market is their creative guts to break the traditional clothing rules with their signature loud and large graphic printings on their collar polo T-shirts. Altogether with funky colours like pink and apple-green realised into their designs unlike most of the usual polo T-shirts with plain colours and small printings.

TRIBE’s trademark was significantly embossed in the local market when they sponsored the wardrobe for the nation’s top rap-core band Pop Shuvit. To that, TRIBE has been the talk of the town, the state and even the nation with their superficially designed clothing. Furthermore, Joe Tribe was even invited to do a talk on the clothing and design industry to students of MIA in the year 2005, sharing his experience and thoughts in starting up successful design business.

TRIBE GRAFFITI – Year 2004

Yet, another great effort of Joe Tribe to further expand his empire with the introduction of TRIBE GRAFFITI, that promotes the distinctive art of ‘murals’ painting. The idea came about when Joe Tribe met up with his crew, Laber whom together they have promote extensively on the art of graffiti. They are the pioneers to organised open graffiti competitions in Malaysia which draws big crowds that succumbed to their introduction and promotion of healthy graffiti arts.

Besides event organising, TRIBE GRAFFITI also does a lot of graffiti painting services on shutter blinds, murals and advertising oriented arts for clients ranging from retail shops, restaurants, discotheques and also on events. For these services, TRIBE GRAFFITI’s prices are of RM300 and above depending on sizes and complexity of the designs. In addition, TRIBE GRAFFITI is the first to import spray can nozzles from Japan (in variety of sizes: fat, semi-fat, skinny & semi-skinny).

To that, TRIBE GRAFFITI did a large sized mural at jonker street of Malacca, the most visited tourist spot that is better known as ‘Jonker Walk’. This was a collaboration work of TRIBE GRAFITTI and SWS (Sembur With Style) crew of Malacca. All this was approved and supported by Malacca’s YB Gan Tian Lok as a purpose to beautify and to add more flavourful vibes to the tourist area. This mural section of the street is something all tourist to Malacca will be able to catch a glimpse on their visit.

TRIBE SOUND DJ ACADEMY– Year 2005

TRIBE SOUND DJ Academy – Year 2005 Sometime during this year, Joe was hooked up with a fellow Malaccan named Reeve and Def, who was working as a DJ in Malacca .
